General electric Lunar total body bone densitometry with total body fat composition and assessment capabilities is the flagship for the General Electric.

Bone densitometry
Unlike many of the bone densitometry equipment, which assess bone density in localized area and extrapolate it for the whole body our system measure the whole skeletal structure.

Clinical Indications for Total Body Assessment
Total body assessment using DEXA provides a unique capability of noninvasive measurement of skeletal bone status, as well as lean and fat tissue components including percent fat, lean tissue mass, etc. The accurate measurement of total as well as regional bone and tissue composition has relevance in a number of clinical conditions.

Technique Results are calculated automatically for BMD, fat tissue, and lean tissue for the total body and sub-regions. Customized regions of interest also can be analyzed for BMD and body composition. DEXA has rapidly become the clinical method of choice for body composition because of its low dose, speed, ease of application, and accuracy. Moreover, DEXA can be used in renal disease, edema, and cachexic conditions in which the water content of tissue is altered, compromising all methods except DEXA.

Clinical Advantages
Total Body BMD and body composition are valuable tools in the management of clinical disorders. In addition, regional fat distribution is clinically useful in relation to cardiovascular disease risk, glucose metabolism, and insulin resistance.

Clinical Trials
Currently more than 70% of pharmaceutical clinical trials utilize total body BMD as a safety, or even an efficacy, endpoint. Moreover, clinical trials increasingly utilize DEXA for body composition which is a key component of research in areas such as weight reduction and cachexic disorders.
